Technology is the new addiction. While time is spent checking email, sending texts, and surfing social media, the chance to engage with our kids and loved ones is lost. With heads down and hands full, we’re looking at screens instead of the eyes of the people who matter most. And then there are the never-ending to-do lists, the jam-packed sched-ules. Weren’t smart phones and digital calendars supposed to make all that easier?
In July 2010, special education teacher and mother Rachel Macy Stafford decided enough was enough. Tired of losing track of what matters most in life amidst technology, busy-ness, and unrealistic social pressures, Rachel began practicing simple strategies that en-abled her to momentarily let go of daily distractions and initiate meaningful human con-nection. She was able to see how both external and internal distractions were sabotaging her happiness and preventing her from bonding with the people she loves.
Hands Free Mama is the digital society’s answer to finding balance in a media-saturated, perfection-obsessed world. It empowers all of us to choose what matters over distraction by offering real and meaningful ways to live a present, authentic, and intentional life.
